The North Brightwood Improvement Association (NBIA) Embarks on a Journey of Progress...
Our compelling story began on September 8, 1963, marked by the formal adoption of our original Bylaws.
The NBIA emerged as a beacon of service, entrusted with distributing residential water for single family domestic use to our valued members.
As a Not-for-Profit Organization, we take great pride in contributing to the welfare of our community nestled in the enchanting landscape of Brightwood, Oregon, against the majestic backdrop of Mount Hood.
The iconic Water Tank image showcased on our Home Page, though now disconnected, serves as a nostalgic testament to the origins of our original Surface Water Storage Tank.
This initial system ingeniously incorporated a blend of Wooden and Tile Pipes within its gravity fed structure.
The wooden water tank, perched atop a local creek, once provided an intermittent supply of mountain-fresh surface creek water, occasionally drying up in the warmer summer months.
In a transformative leap in July 1997, the NBIA drilled its first water well, reaching a depth of approximately 350 feet.
By 1998, we transitioned from our surface water system, bidding farewell to the wooden water tank.
In its place, a more modern system emerged, featuring a single deep water well (Well Number One) and an upgraded steel storage tank.
This enhancement bestowed upon us a continuous, cleaner, and year-round supply of fresh, auto-chlorinated, and meticulously monitored water for our organization.
The early 2000's marked a period of significant growth for NBIA, expanding our community to a total of 33 memberships by the year 2000 and 38 memberships by 2013.
A second water well of equal depth was drilled in February 2015 and seamlessly integrated into our existing water system.
Today, our advanced water supply system comprises two deep water wells, tapping into an aquifer of mostly pure, iron-free water, complemented by a larger, modern storage tank and requisite facilities.
With the unwavering commitment to safety and compliance with state regulations, our water system undergoes rigorous monitoring by our diligent Water Master and regular independent lab testing.
The acquisition of a Backup Generator in January 2021, coupled with the installation of an Electrical Manual Transfer Switch, ensures an uninterrupted water supply during any electrical disruptions.
Currently servicing 44 memberships, our NBIA community embraces the ethos of continuous improvement.
Our system, characterized by a steadfast gravity feed mechanism, undergoes routine testing of Back-Flow devices and constant enhancements to pumping, storage, water main, and arterial distribution lines.
The heart of NBIA lies in the collaborative efforts of our friendly, hard working members and neighbors, united in the mission to uphold the reputation of providing the freshest and cleanest water in the neighborhood.
An annual event, our General Fall Membership Meetings convene to elect officers, reflect on the events of the past year, set future goals, and prioritize the health of our water system and our cherished members.
Open to all upon request, these gatherings foster a sense of community spirit and shared purpose.
In alignment with our motto, "Clean, Clear, and Mountain Fresh, it Must be the Water," NBIA proudly supports ORWARN - Oregon Water/Wastewater Agency Response Network, epitomizing our dedication to community and preparedness.
